1 why does my car only start when the hood is open? 2 why does my head unit keep cuttin off and on?

Plz help! When I try to start my cavalier nothin happens, then I pop the hood and it starts. Then when it's on the beep that tells you your door ajar stays on even when the doors are closed (checks all 4 doors) and my head unit stereo cuts on and off every 2 seconds. None of my fuses are blown. What is goin on with my car? Thanks

None of this makes sense with the hood open unless there is a bad connection at the battery.
There should be no connection to the stereo system.

Did this start when the stereo was installed?

No the stereo was installed in o9. And I bought an "optima" battery last year.
It has side and top terminals and I do notice a little bit of white on the negative (black) one
The car jus started actin wierd last week.
