I am looking to buy a USED 2003 Cadillac Escalade EXT and I was told that the transfer case in these vehicles usually needs to be replaced every 90 - 100 thousand miles. Is there anything with the front end or the AWD system that has repeatedly been a problem other than regular maintenance that I need to be aware of and how do you tell if the system is starting to fail?

All depends on how well it was serviced. No way to tell when something will fail.

In 45 years, done 1 transfer case from an accident. Not a common failure in my eyes unless not serviced.
