My blower motor started making noises then went completely out about a month ago. After learning the motor is behind the glove box I can make it come on sometimes by beating on the dash board, although it doesn't blow as hard as before. I'm pretty handy and was wondering if it's easy enough to change yourself. I've gotten what I think are high estimates to do it - all around $500 - $600. An AC/Delco blower online is under $200, off brands can be as low as $75. Also, one guy said the reason the price was so high is they have to re-charge the air-conditioner - is that true? Can't see why. Any advise? Could I cause more damage by doing it myself? I heard from someplace it can be hard to remove. Thanks, Joy

You do not have to discharge the a/c. It is tough first of all to get all the fasteners, and to twist and torque the blower motor and housing to get it out. It is hard to describe to a person, just what needs to be done, since alot of it is trial and error. The service manual basically says remove it, and install in reverse order, no help at all. I would say if you feel confident, try it. More than likely if you do choose to give up, it will be closer to being installed than removed, and you could just put it back together.
