my speedometer doesn't work on my 2002 volvo s40... why?

Do you have a check engine light on as well? You should start with having the engine control module and transmission control module for VSS (vehicle speed sensor) codes. If there is a fault for a VSS issue, replace the sensor. It is located on top of the transmission under the air cleaner.
