The brake wear indicator is a 2 wire sensor, when the pad that holds the sensor wears to the point that one of the wires breaks, then a warning light in the dash will come on. There is NO audible noise, just a round circle with 3 lines on either side. When new pads are installed, the new sensor is plugged into the wiring harness plug and the warning light should be OFF. If the warning light is still ON, then there is a wiring problem (a broken wire in the circuit). If you are also hearing a BEEPING noise, then that is usually part of the ABS warning system.
