How do you know when water pump is out on 2002 Suzuki Vitara with 2.0 engine

Hose by water pump is cold I changed the thermostat hose is still cold

When it leaks or you have overheating issues with no circulation.

Did the car overheat?

Its not leaking but I look in radiator with cap off and there is no circulation

There wont be till the thermostat opens. Is it opening?

Dont mean to sound dumb but how will I know when it opens does the hose by pump the get hot?

Both hoses will be hot. It may be a bad thermostat or it may just need a long time to open.
