I drive a 2002 Subaru Impreza RS. The check engine light went on two years ago, but the dealership could not diagnose the problem and said the O2 sensor was working. There is no effect (that I can detect) on performance. I just took it to a different mechanic and he has diagnosed a bad catalytic converter.
My concern is that he says there is no way to know what caused the converter to fail. Should I allow him to replace the converter, or will the new converter fail too because the underlying problem has not been fixed?
have the same problem?
