Hi, I have the truck listed above with a blown head gasket. What year engines are compatible with my truck? I am finding 1996-2001 seem to be the same what about 2002? Can I install a 1998 engine in the truck?

Hello and thanks for visiting 2carpros. Com. With today's vehicles, there are so many different sensors, designs, and computer issues, I only recommend getting the exact same year. Here is an example of why. Recently, I was asked to replace the engine in a 2008 vehicle. The customer had already purchased a 2002 engine of the same size. After the install, we found it nearly impossible to make electrical connections to parts such as the oil pressure sensor, coolant temperature sensors. The engine looked the same and had the same block. However, it required specific modifications. In the end, it would have been much easier to get an exact replacement.
