We recently had a mechanic replace the intake gasket on our car because the vehicle was leaking antifreeze profusely. Now the leak has stopped, but the check engine light is flashing, the car runs WORSE than it did before. We had the codes checked and got a P0301, suggesting that injector 1 went bad, but why did this happen? Should I find another mechanic?

Find another one and have him check sparkplug, compression and injector for cyl no.1

How does code P0301 suggest the injector went bad?You could have a injector or injector control issue.A spark issue compression issue or even a vacuum leak.

That's what I want to know. The mechanic suggests that I replace the injector, but how did it go bad in a few days. The engine ran very smoothly before he replaced the intake gasket. Now it runs like crap. Very shaky, and has even died a couple of times.

If it is a P0201, that is for the #1 injector control circuit. I am assuming it is P0201, since this vehicle does not set individual cylinder misfire codes. Since someone was in there prior to this problem, I would suspect possibly that wires are pinched/disconnected, or the injector was mishandled. They probably recommend you to purchase an injector so they can justify charging you, to go in and recheck their work.

Gstacey is right there is no code P0301 just the P0300. So if it is a P0201 then it could be a wire issue and they would have had to mess with the injector harness to make the repair.
