I have a misubishi animal 2002, 2.5 diesal manual 4x4, both the timing and pump belts have snapped and it has broken one of the rockers on no 3 cylinder, I have partly stripped it down but am unable to get the bottom timing cover off unless I take the bottom pully off, this is attched to the crank and is crucial to timing the engine up? But you cannot get to the timing cover and the belts unless you do so, I have already taken the viscos fan and pullys and belts off, and of course the rocker cover, removed the radiater, and top half of the grill so I can get to things better, how can I find out if their is any damage to no three piston without removing the cylinder head, noting of course that I cannot now turn the engine over, and now I will have to remove the cam to replace the broken rocker, Please any help would be wounderfull. Thanks, John

There are boroscopic cameras that can go into and see in the glowplug hole, but theyre expensive and youd be hard pressed to find someone to loan you one. You can take off the oil pan and look at connecting rods, and remove the pistons by taking off their crank caps, and sliding them out. Once the rocker cover is off you should be able to tell enough by whats damged there. The harmonic balancer must come off to remove the timing cover and a harmonic puller is needed for that(inexpensive tool at parts store
