Hi I've had 2 mechanic listen to a rattling noise coming from engine which is possibly the timing chain but one mechanic is saying he has to run a check 1st to see if its something to do with the oil pump otherwise he could fit a new chain and it could do the same.

Is this true about running test on oil pump working?

Hello,

Oil pump can be tested by testing the oil pressure. If there is sufficient pressure, then the oil pump will be considered good.

Low oil pressure can create engine noise due to not getting oil to the top of the engine.
Many times, with low oil pressure engines will have noisy lifters. It can also happen if the oil level is low.

If you can upload a video with the vehicle running. Let's see if we can determine what might be the cause.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
