Does the alternator need to be hooked up for it to run?

My husband just put on the new timing belt, and has been trying to see if it will fire up without hooking up the alternator first. Does that need to be hooked up for it to run right?

I wouldnt run it without a alternator you can ruin the computer doing that.

The cam and crank are aligned proper and the belt tension is correct but the car only will start if u floor it and ideas.

Why was the timing belt replaced?Did it break?

No it did not break, it was extremely loose.
