The auto did not have a thermastat and ran fine but did nothave heat. My husband installed a thermastat and now it runs hot almost immediately. The fans work. What can it be?

Running it without a thermostat may have damaged the motor. Todays motors need and must have a thermostat. It is there for a reason.

Have a leak down test done to see if the head gasket is damaged.
