My 2002 vx commodore executive, whilst cruising regardless of speed and rpm drops suddenly and stays low (generally around the 1500rpm mark) or if I back off the throttle to slow down gradually or going down a hill the rpm drops suddenly to idle. There is no problem when the car is underload and acceleration, the car does not run rough or splutter, it idles fine, though on 3 occasions the engine has just cut out for no apparent reason. Originally thought it may of been from bad fuel since it started happening soon after filling up, so drained the tank and used a higher quality. Fuel but the problem is still there. Any help would be great thanks.

That sounds like there's a problem with the throttle position sensor. Do you have an engine light?

No warning lights or anything. And its not a consistent problem, happens at random times.

I'm willing to bet there's wiring damage or perhaps corrosion in a circuit somewhere. Do you know where your engine control module is or the throttle position sensor? I'd suggest unplugging them and inspecting as much of the wiring as possible. I don't have info on your exact car here in the states but I'll help you any way I can
