2002 Ford Windstar******

I bought a 2002 Ford Windstar yesterday. It has 105k on it and the check engine light stays on. Driving it home yesterday I noticed that it****** a lot when I'm going up most hills and sometimes when I'm driving through towns. What causes this and how do I fix it?

Check engine light on
Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.
