2002 Explorer transmission cooler

Rebuilt transmission installed May 2010, failed November 2011, contamination from transmission cooler. Any way that water can enter the transmission cooler?

Sure, it happens all the time. The cooler is inside the radiator and if it leaks, it will get coolant into it.
