I lost my car key for a 2002 ford explore can I use a locksmith to change the car key or do ihave to get a specific key from the dealer because it has a chip/computer in it?

It does have to be a special key with a chip in it and it will have to be programmed to the vehicle but some locksmiths have that ability.

No it’s not necessary to get specific key from dealer, the locksmith have that ability to program the replacement key in the car. Sort out the list of professional locksmith around your area and tell them about your problem on call. They will suggest you the specific amount required to do this task. The best thing about them is that they will reach immediately to your place and get this job done within short time.
