My car keeps dying and making a rattling noise.

At every stop sign or red light the car will kill. It was already having problems changing gears( its an automatic) but recently it started making a rattling noise and now I cant go over thirty. Is my transmission gone or do I need something else?

That is a good question. If the check engine light has come on, have the computer scanned to see if there are trouble codes that may help identify where the problem is coming from. As far as the noise, without hearing it, I would be guessing. Having the computer scanned is the best way to start limiting where the problem is coming from. Most parts stores will scan it for free.
