My front drivers side wheel is grinding when I put truck in 4 wheel drive. Dosent seem to catch but rear wheels do work. Also going down road it really makes a lot of noise. What could be problem?

Check to make sure its not the front propeller shaft making the noise. I currently drive a 2003 Dakota 4.7 4x4. They are known to have issues with the cv axle end of the shaft.

Start by looking at the joint at the end of the shaft at the transfer case. Is the boot tore up or gone? Does it look really rusted inside the joint?
