On my wifes 2002 volkswagen beetle her rod that you pull click down and up to turn on the windshield wipers or to clean your windshield is vry loose. It will not click at all to the different settings. It just freely flows up and down and is hard to know what setting it is on. What might cause this rod switch to become this loose?

Looks like you have to remove the air bag the steering column covers etc. If your not familar working on cars air bag safety etc you should have it replaced some where.I would say labor would be 2hrs times shop labor rate on the high side and the switch I would check on www. Rockauto. Com they have them on there.
