2002 Chevrolet Cavalier What could it be?
I have a 2002 Chevy Cav. Sometimes the speed indicator will start jumping around and the car will shift up and down. Most of the time it is fine. It only does this when the speed ind. Starts jumping. What is the problem? It has a new speed senor.

There is a gear on the sensor that is plastic and dishes in the center that causes the type of issue you are describing. Have it checked to verify.

No, in the transaxle. After you remove the sensor, it will be on the end of the sensor.

Is this the sensor that was replaced? If it was, make sure the connector is good and apply some di electric grease. It could be as simple as a bad connection.

If not, you will need help from a shop with a scan tool to monitor the signal going to the pcm.
