2002 Cadillac Deville oil leak

I saw a oil leak under my 2002 cadalic deville, I climbed under it to see were it was comeing from and it was the oil filter so I tightined it by hand , and it stoped it as far as I could see. But im wondering if that was the problem would it cause oil to get all over my moter

In a car with that age the with that many miles. If no gaskets have been replaced anywhere before then I would believe you have leaks at other locations as well. Such as valve cover gasket, oil pan, front crank seal. Etc. If that was your only leak then you would be surprised at how wind when driving can move fluid around an engine bay. I would take it to a shop to have them degrease it, and put in some dye if necessary to then check to see where the leak(s) is coming from.
