I recently changed my neutral safety switch on my Saturn sc1, and when I try to adjust it I cant get it to come out of first gear or it does and then will not down shift back to first. What is the proper why to adjust it?

Depends on whats causing your shifting problem put the car in D4 unhook the the black ground from the blade terminal. Then put your meter on low scale ohms like 200 ohms scale. Then loosen the two 13mm bolts holding the selector switch in place. Then measure across the two bladed terminals move the selector switch till you get a ohms reading on the meter. Then tighten down the selector switch. There is your adjustment whats the shifting problem? Also any codes in the computer?

The codes are incorrect gear ratio and it will shift through the all gears fine but when you stop it will not down shift to first, or you will be going down the high way and it will shift down to 3rd and acts like it get stuck in 3rd. I have to stop and shut the car off unplug the neutral safety switch and plug it back in. After that it is fine for about 5 miles. But it don't do it all the time. I recently changed the tranny and pinched a wire witch caused a short that blew my fuse. That how the problem started. I fix the short and someone told me to try the neutral safety switch, so I did. Now it will shift but I think were I don't have it adjusted right is causing the problem now. When I put it in the first time it was stuck in first, I moved it around and got it to shift out, but I have to pull it down to 3rd to get it to go to 2nd then out it back in drive and will go through all the gears. It does not slip.

Did you ever have a selector switch code?Did you replace the selector switch? I havent really seen a bad selector switch set incorrect gear ratio codes. Did the old transmission set incorrect gear ratio codes also?If your getting those codes the computer is seeing clutch slip in the gears it's set those codes for. What year and model did you get the transmission from you put in your car?The incorrect gear ratio codes in that car are usually caused by a pressure issue too low of line pressure.

The tyranny came out of the same model but different year it is out of a 97. The old one had the same codes but after I changed it I had them reset and every thing was fine till it shorted out and blew the fuse. No their was no selector switch code incorrect gear ratio and O2 was all it has. The other tranny would shift but shifted hard that why I changed it. But like I said after I changed it everything was fine till it blow the fuse.

The other transmission just needed a rebuilt valve body with the sonnax sure cure kit. The pressure regulator bore wears out and sometimes you get too much pressure and sometimes not enough. So what wires pinched and what fuse blew? Sounds like you may still have some wiring issues.

It was the purple wire right at the plug for the valve body it blew the 3/4 shift sensor fuse.

Do you have a delay or delay bang into reverse? Also scan the car for codes and let me know the exact code numbers not code descriptions? That will really help me.

With a delay in reverse and the incorrect gear ratio codes sounds like the pressure is too low.

You first have to do a pressure reading on the transmission to diagnose the problem otherwise we are just guessing.
