Went into limp home mode when preheating warning lamp came on got home. Now lots of white smoke from exhaust

Driving home tonight my cars preheat warning light came on and the car went into limp home mode I got home at a slow speed but when I puled up at my house the car started smoking from the exhaust white smoke lots of it

It sounds like you have a head gasket leak. Otherwise known as a blown head gasket.

If any coolant is getting into the cylinder it will make things worse to keep running it. Diesels are very sensitive to fluid in the combustion chamber.
You might get away with just the head gasket if you get on it now. Waiting will only cause more damage.
