2001 Pontiac Aztek engine removal.

Hello everybody I have a question for you guys hoping somebody can help me am trying to change the engine on 01 Pontiac Aztek. Mi question is do I have to put cylinder #1 at TDC before I start taken it apart trying to avoid extra work because #1 cylinder is on the back side. Thanks an advance your help be appreciated.

So I not going to have any problems to start the the engine ones the other one is in? Thoes the pcm dont need to know sylinder one position. Can you please explain a little.

Once you have the new engine in and everything hooked up the ecm will find Number 1 as long as it's not a different type of engine that has different electronics in it.
