Auto trans relay

I bought my daughter a 2001 Nissan Xterra. She has had some issues with the transmission. We had the celenoids replaced because the computer pegged them. Now the vehicle is still trying to do the same thing. A friend says to change the auto trans relay before going back to the mechanic. Where is the relay located?

There is no relay.

If the computer pegged them, then why did this happen? Does not make sense. If the solenoids are bad, they may have failed the computer from shorting out. This needs to be verified before jumping to this repair.

What are the actual issues with the trans?

The transmission doesn't want to shift out of third. You can pull it down manually into 1st or 2nd and it changes without hesitation or jerking.

It is an occasional issue that is becoming more troublesome.

Sounds more of an internal failure than electrical issue. Get it checked to confirm. It may need to come and be overhauled.
