Mitsubishi Mirage hesitation?
Hi guys! I've got a Mitsubishi Mirage 2001 with a 1.8L engine.
When accelerating, the car hesitates and seems to fire on 3 cylinders. The car runs smoothly if the acceleration pedal is not push down.

The spark plugs seem to be black(a sign of rich fuel and cold firing). This may be a clue to the first part of my problem.

Please let me know if you experienced this problem and what you did to solve it.

Yes, the check engine lights has been on since day one.(Goofy me)

I will take it to the local auto store which they will tell me the code and that would be a great clue on which of the above problems could apply.
