You do not have an overheating issue. The temperature gauge is not showing an accurate reading.

When engine is started from cold, it takes at 20 minutes or more before the cooling fans are commanded to come on.

There are scan type thermometers available. Get one to check the coolant and engine temperature to see what they are.

That is a great idea as I suggested earlier a infared temp to measure actual engine temp.

Is that celluis or fernhit?

Thats 221 F thats not super hot what was the gauge reading when that temp showed on the scan tool?

At 105 Celcius, the temperature gauge should be showing normal operating temperature. As the system is under pressure and coupled with coolant used, it can reach 125 degrees without boiling. Is coolant being pushed to the reservoir at 105 degrees?

It sounds like the coolant might not be circulating since you said you took the radiator cap off when it was 221 F and the coolant did come out. Which you never do when the engine is hot.

So does both upper and lower radiator hoses get really hot?Because if you can remove the radiator cap when its really hot and coolant doesnt go blowing all over you have some engine circulation issues.
