Loose/floating shifter

While I was driving to work today, my shifter just all of a sudden wouldn't go into any gear, and right now I think it's stuck in 3rd. The Shifter is just basically floating and not going into gear. I can go around in a circle with the shifter. I was wondering what would cause this. I haven't tried anything to fix it. I am just wanting to know how much this is going to cost me, or what I should do next.

Thank you

Here is a diagnosis chart.
Does any of the "problem(s)" match what you've described?

Kind of. It does not stay in gear, go into gear, or catch any of the gears. I can move the shifter all the way in a circle and all over the place.

I would start off by looking at the shifter cable ends attached to the transmission shift fork. If I remember right it is on top of the transmission on the driver side towards the back of the vehicle. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find, TY
