What would make a 2001 ford windstar transmisson go from running good one day to not shifting the next? Its not in the shifter linkage. Thanks

Your title says quit running? Your question is not shifting? Care to clarify?

Correct. We thought it could need a whole new transmission but then my husband said it just doesn't make sense because it was driving fine. There was never any slipping or weird sounds. It was running perfect one day and all of a sudden the gears just quit.

When he says it's not the shifter what does that mean? Is the trans shift lever itself moving thru the gear choices when the in the car selector is moved?

Yes the trans shifter is moving through the gears. We replaced the safety nuetral switch and now have back up lights when we put it in reverse but it still won't move. Your can go through all the gears and it doesn't do anything.
