2001 Ford Escort Escort diesel van won't start

Hi my escort van started on Sat morning fine drove out of garage then it just stopped! Now when you turn over it just sounds like it's whurring as if something's gone! Had a quick look at cam belt it seems ok but I am no mechanic so not sure! Help please

It sounds like a timing belt to me, tell me exactly how you checked the Cam-belt?

Yep, the timing belt will cause the issue you have described, toy can remove the upper part of the front timing belt cover to see if the camshaft turns when cranking the engine over to confirm the failure.
