elecrtical problem

i have a 2001 ford escort. i put a new battery and alternator in it and now when you turn the key on to start the car you lose everything including the clock

Bad connection. Look for a positive battery cable bolted to an under-hood fuse box to see it is loose. Also check the smaller ground wire where it is bolted to the fender.
