My car leaks oil and now makes this machine gun sound, but only when I accelerate. Other then that car runs great. I have to keep driving her, noisy or not, I have no other vehicle. Please tell me it is not a rod knock! She starts every time first shot and never dies, still gets up and goes like nothing wrong. Please help! I love this car!

Its probably a cracked flex plate if the car idles good. Itd pay to have it checked out properly. It could also be an exhaust manifold leak but that's a lighter sound, and also does it at idle. Theyre going to have to pull the trans to make the true determination so you may as well have them replace the rear main seal while theyre at it to eliminate that as a now or future leak

I hope your right, but my car did run out of oil, but I had no notification of it! I added 4 1/2 quarts to it. I had oil change done right after that and that is when machine gun started, but as I said, only if I accelerate. I got no smoke either. She seriously still runs great except that noise and it leaking oil, would it still run great if possible rod knock?

Thank you so much for your help! I am sad mostly because this is the first Winter I have driven in since 2005 and it was this car that helped me, so very sentimental to me now. So I am beating myself up over this, I should of checked oil more often! Yes I am female! Lol
