Can anyone tell me how this pipe is connected to the thermostat housing area? Is it flanged and secured with a nut that slipped over the pipe at the other end (the end where it is adjoined to the front bypass pipe w/a short rubber hose )? I realize I'll have to remove the plenum, but I'd rather just route it outside the engine by hopefully hacksawing off most of the pipe, after the bend at the thermostat end, loosening the nut, rotating the pipe so it points towards the front of the engine, and clamping heater hose to that, and connecting that hose to the front bypass pipe.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather not have to wait for for a mail order part nor drive to a distant junk yard to secure a used one.

The first picture looks like it may be a different but similar car. Regardless that pipe is bolted into whatever horizontally.
The 2nd picture looks right. The pipe is bolted there vertically. I'm not a master mechanic, but can't see any other way tubing could be fastened to something but with a fllange on the end and a bolt. If then that's the case, I should be able to loosen that bolt, rotate the pipe (after hacksawing the part that goes underneath the plenum).
There doesn't seem to be complications to this. My only concern was that there may be an ancillary cooling/heating purpose to that pipe being routed the way it was (through the plenum). But I doubt it.

The pipe runs from the passenger side front of the engine (where it's connected to the (outer) thermal bypass pipe with a short hose and clamps), runs underneath the plenum, to the drivers side of the engine where the thermostat housing is.
