Ignition switch stuck

I took the keys out and it was still in the on position now it wont turn at all what happened and what do I need to do?

Hi my name is Dan.

It sounds like you could have a mechanical issue with the key switch. The key switch is fairly easy to replace if you have the key. See the attached pictures.
Also, some 2001 Monte Carlos had a recall pertaining to the key switch. You can call your local dealer with your VIN number, or check for open recalls at www.NHTSA.com to see if this applies to your car.
