2001 Chevrolet Malibu Depress Gas Pedel Hard Floor Passing Car Hil Engine

I depress the gas pedel hard or floor it, as if passing a car or going up a hil, engine revs, I hear a whistle, transmision does not shift, car slows down, and check brake light comes on and stays on. if I gradually depress pedel gradually car shifts, speed increases, whistle sound is not heard.
