Put new EGR valve on a 2001 Chevy Impala but engine light came back on

My son inlaw put a new egr valve in mt car. Cleaned out the ports. The engine light came back on. Ii took it down to another of my son inlaws and put hooked it up to a diagnostic machine and it showed my egr valve was not getting any voltage. He took off the connecter and messed with the wires. Cleared the code. Now the engine light is back on. Do you think its the connecter?

Could be the connector or a wiring problem-check for an open and short circuit back to the computer
