The odometer on my 2001 Buick Regal GSE went dark
including the shift markers but the speedometer and
everything else in the cluster works. Is there a fuse or
other control that can cause this problem?

The bulb's burn out in the cluster there is more then one bulb that light's up the cluster that's why some thing's are lighting up and somethings aren't.

Common problem with these cars. There are no bulbs to replace for the odometer and gear indicator, there are resistors that are loose or burnt out on the circuit board that lights these 2 things, watch the video on youtube for an idea of what is needed to repair, I fixed my own with $1 for parts at radio shack. Dealer wanted $300.
