I have a 2001 BMW 530i, while adding a fuel additive while the vehicle was turned off I left the fuel cap off and turned the vehicle "ON" to back the car out of the drive way fo rapproximately 20 feet to get more room. I then turned the vehicle off and finished putting in the fuel additive. Several hours later I drove to the gas station and topped off the tank (6 gallons) and drove approximately 100 miles with one stop. Next day drove 50 miles and stopped and parked for a couple of hours. When I started the vehicle again the check engine light came on. WHY!

BMW chose to have the a check light for the issue of the fuel evaporative as the issue of the day. It may just have the fuel cap be loose or the fuel trim is an issue. Either way, be aware of the check light and reset it and see what happens
