Hi when my car is switchedswitched off and I put it in a gear my car can still move forward or backward. When my car is switched on and I put it in gear my car will not move. My clutch feels really really soft. Do you think it's my clutch that is burnt? I have checked the clutch Master and clutch slave cylinders and nothing wrong there. What could the problem be?

Yes, could be a burnt clutch. How long have you had the car? Are you new to driving manual cars?

If the clutch is burnt, you will be able to smell it if you put your head under the hood where the transmission is.

If the clutch is not burnt, check your drive axles / shafts. If one of the CV joints is broken, the car will also not move.

Hi. Thanks for the reply, but when switched on the car doesn't even attempt to go forward or backward. It's almost like when the car is in neutral and you rev the engine. I've been driving manual cars for about four years now. No burnt smell under the hood. Could it be that the clutch has not completely burnt out?

Could be clutch, axle shaft or your shifter linkage / cables. No way to tell from here.

With no smell you may have a mechanical failure to investigate. Check drive line first.
