Power steering is very stiff with no fluid

Hi, I've got a 2000 Opel Zafira 1.6 dti. The power steering has become very stiff. Having checked the fluid, it is empty. I picked up some Halfords Central Hydraulic Fluid yesterday but just want to be sure this is suitable as opposed to normal power steering fluid. Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Power steering fluids are mostly hydraulic fluids and most transmission fluids or equivalent would work.

Since the reservoir is empty, you should be looking for leaks and getting it repaired.
