With a 2000 Bravada (Smarttrak) in PARK, if I lift the front end, should the front tire spin freely? Or if it does not, is that an indication it is stuck in 4WD?

This means nothing with this system. It will free spin untill it the wheel speed sensors tell the computer there is a speed difference and then it will tell the automatic transfer case control module (ATCM) to lock in the transfer case and then within mili seconds you have 4x4. So that is how the system works in basic terms.
