On a 2000 Kia Sephia the front pipe is leaking bad(the pipe is split) could this set off a check engine light?

Front pipe leaks very bad(Exhaust)

Yes it can. The leak will allow outside unmetered air into the system and give wrong readings to the pcm.

Have it repaired and have the shop very by long term trim readings.
