Engine oil

Just a general question Is it possible for a car to be very low on oil and not make any engine noise until it completely runs dry and seizes? I have a 2000 Honda Passport that my husband does repairs on. It is a standard trans. It has 100K+ miles. The check engine light is always on and apparently, the oil indicator light does not work. I have been driving the Honda without any noise at all. I admit that I was not very faithful in checking oil. The other day, we were both in the Honda, and all of the sudden, it started making a loud banging noise. We pulled over to the side of the road and he checked the oil and it was dry. Is this possible that there would be no other signs until it ran dry?

Yes that can happen usually you will hear lifters clicking etc it could have made some noise maybe you just wern't listening.A/c or radio on etc its best not to depend on lights and noise and check your oil regularly ideally everytime you get gas.
