2000 gmc yukon 5.3L 4x4 Is the rear main engine blockseal hard to replace. I changed oil to heavier weight due to lifters noisy on startup and 300 miles later rear main leaking out of bell housing (6"X1' PUDDLE OVERNIGHT). Should I just rebuild engine or swap out and what is the best place to find one. Could I just replace seal?

With that milage main bearing wear will be excessive allowing crank to move and oil will leak. Also will lessen oil presure to top of engine need to rebuild or replace

I have rebuilt manual/auto trannys, engines and the like. I am not up to date with this engine and have taken Very good care of this vehicle I have a monster trans in it and she still performs.I know there are some issues with the leaking are you in this for basics or are you a true expert ( better than me novice ) you have 10,000 answers. How hard is the seal to replace and does it require and engine dismantle. This leak is odd in the sense that it all of the sudden? Comming out in my opinion like crazy. Could this be a spun bearing or is there another simple conclusion like pressure to filter and or loosened bolt to cause this to the extent. The no leaking to holy $#!* This is bad point has me to believe there may be a simple short term fix while I build a monster engine to match my tranny? Help me out

Gareth this is what I am looking for. The man who is not just the pat get my 3 or four dollars for a two cent answer. Do not mean to be rude but I will give more money when I get a pro answer. I know this means good detail so mean no offense to others.
I will do some research as this is my wifes baby and even when the tranny went out I was able to get home in limp mode a while back. I am a GMC believer and knocking on 300000 miles without ever opening the engine up ++++. I own an explorer as well as a f150 and to me the explorer is a piece of____ but the 150 has over 240000 miles and I am somewhat satisfied with it though Ford has some big pain in the ___ issues Thanks for info and I will be in touch and show gratitude after some grease monkey time under the hood.
