2000 GMC Sierra speedometer

My speedometer is working intermittently.I went to the parts store and they said it is computerized and not cable driven. Is it hard to fix and if not how do I do it?

Some of the national brand autostores will check trouble codes for free. Did you ask them to check for trouble codes? For a start check the vss/vehicle speed sensor. It could be an issue with the instrument cluster or wiring circuit? I'd check for possible codes, to see if that points us in the proper direction?
