I read on a GMC Blog that you cannot replace a noise making lifter without removing the heads on a Vortec V-8 5.3L. Is this true? I have a lifter/pushrod making noise that using a stethascope device comes from the intake area and not the valve cover area. Am I in for a lot of work? Is this not like the classic small block where you could do this removing the intake? Thanks !!!

Pushrods maybe checked and replaced easily but not the valve lifters which requires cylinder head removal.

Left head book time is 6.9 hours while right is 6.0 hours.

Check for worn cam lobes while you are there as these engines are known to have such faults when there is a lubricating issue.

OK thanks for the info.. Yet to pull the valve covers. I am hoping a push rod or rocker. My luck would be worn lifter and cam. It is not missing at all yet just has a constant ticking on both banks. Driver side rear and passerger side middle of bank. I did flush engine with engine flush and oil pressure better but clicking still there. Thought it may be a lifter not pumping up all the way...

Usually lifters would click when it is partially stuck or has collapsed. Hope it is something minor.
Good luck.
