I am replacing the timing cover on a 2000GMC Jimmy 4.3l 2wd, the new cover does not have a oil pan seal, the original is made into the oil pan gasket, can you replace cover without removing the oil pan and gasket also?

Oil pan has to be removed to replace the front cover. Gasket should come with the cover and once removed, the gasket would be damaged.

You can replace the front cover without dropping the pan if you are very careful. You must use silicone sealer on the oil pan portion of the timing cover. If you cannot position the cover then you will need to grind the edges of the lip for the oil pan gasket part of the timing cover until you get the proper fit.
