7.3 ltr Diesel Turbo

I have a 2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 7.3 Ltr. Diesel. It is currently in the local dealership for repairs. I am told that the Turbo has to be replaced. I know that Garrett Makes two turbos. The GTP-38 and the GTP-38R. The GTP-38R is a ball bearing turbo with a ported shroud turbo housing to eliminate the 7.3's notorious "surge" problem. I am wondering if the dealerships are still replacing turbos with the original turbo or if they have started installing the ones with the ported shroud housing in recognition of the problem

This you will have to check with the dealer, make your intentions very clear that you want the up dated turbo, you may have to pay a extra for it but it will be wort it.
