NO CRANK NO START

No crank no start.I have tried everything I could think of and found that if I jump the solenoid to the battery its runs and starts just fine. What can this be I was thinking neutral safety switch is this correct before I buy the part and fix it or could it be something different----thanks for your help. KIM

Maybe Neutral or ignition switch will need a meter or test light to check both
